Men's Club

The Men's Club of Temple Beth O'r/Beth Torah promotes fellowship among its members and brings the initiatives of the Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs to benefit of our congregation and the community at large. Among the programs we promote are:

Shomrei Ha'aretz - Preserving the planet and conserving natural resources. We urge our members to use soy candles and other products which come from renewable resources. We have presented eco-programs to educate the community on this vital topic.

Wellness Initiative - Our Men's Club regularly invites the congregation and the community to Sunday morning breakfasts which are followed by speakers who bring information on maintaining health and preventing illness. We take part in our Temple's Walking and Fitness group walks in the park and support the healthy, low fat, low calorie brunch which follows all walks. Featured is a speaker who speaks on the benefits of a healthy life style with regular exercise and healthy eating.

Yad Shel Chai - This recently instituted program recognizes members of the congregation who have read from the Torah 18 times in a year.

Yom HaShoah Yellow Candle Program - Our Men's Clubs distributes these specially crafted candles to synagogue members to light on Erev Yom HaShoah to remember those who perished during the Holocaust. Youth from synagogues using the candles may apply for FJMC scholarships in the United Synagogue-administered "Darkness Into Light" program for Eastern Europe travel. We join FJMC in outreach to families with intermarried members through our Keruv program, including new efforts to make our synagogues and prayer services welcoming to all congregants. FJMC's Keruv program sets no pre-conditions or goals of conversion.

World Wide Wrap - Each year on the morning of the NFL's Super Bowl, we promote a special morning minyan in our synagogue where the mitzvah of tefillin is explained and demonstrated. This world-wide event is a fixture in synagogues throughout North America and in Australia, India, Europe, and South America.
