Cantor Steven Stern

Cantor Steven Stern joined Temple Beth O'r/Beth Torah in 1994 and has served as our Spiritual Leader since 2008. He previously served communities in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Long Island, New York, and Aberdeen, New Jersey. An innovative and dynamic leader, he received the Religious Leadership Award from Federation of Central New Jersey in 2010. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York where he attended Yeshiva Etz Chaim and the Yeshiva of Flatbush. After study at the Jewish Theological Seminary, he received a degree in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies from Brandeis University. He has lectured at New School University and NYU. I believe the synagogue of today must provide for spiritually uplifting worship, be a venue for serious Torah study, and it must encourage opportunities for Tikkun Olam, reaching out for the betterment of others. And underlying it all must be a strong sense of community with shared concerns. We pride ourselves on being such a place in the heart of Union County.
